Research

Research is where you investigate a topic for the purpose of aiding you with your own topic. So you can see what is good and what is bad. This helps so you can improve your work.

If you fail to research into something properly some people could say that you haven't answered that question properly and some people will give you hate for what you have done, on your how to video. You can also write or talk about topics that are incorrect and can make people feel bad or even sue.

There are two types of research, primary and secondary. Primary research is research that you have done personally, so for example giving out your own questionnaire or interviewing people for factual information that you have gathered. Then secondary research is research that you have got from books or online, which isn't your actual research you have gotten this from what somebody else has said, this means that the research you gather can be biased. Although primary research is better because it's information that you have gathered it's also very time consuming. As secondary research is much faster.

Qualitative Research

Is a person who doesn't involve data. Talks about specific topics but, can't be relied upon, due to it maybe being incorrect. Qualitative research relies on data obtained by the researchers from first hand for example, interviews, questionnaires, documents, and artifacts.

Quantitative Research

Quantitative is based on facts and data only. This will be used for reviews for films or games, or many other things needing precise data. Quantitative research is a research strategy that focuses on quantifying the collection and analysis of data. It was formed for testing theories by researchers.

Lighting

Good lighting is important because lighting is used to set the mood in all films. So in horror films the lighting would be dark and creep but, in an action film the lighting would be used for guns and explosions and much more. If you have bad lighting it could end up ruining the whole film.

3 Point Lighting

This uses 3 different lights in 3 different locations. One behind for a backlight which helps show the background, the second light straight on to capture their facial expressions, then the third light to capture what's in the shadow on their body. So nothing would be in the dark, the room and the subject would all be bright and lit up.

Gel Lighting

You can use gel colours to change the colour of the light. You would use different colours to create different types of formats within filming, or taking pictures. Different colours also represent different feelings as well.

We practised three point lighting in the media studio. We also used gel colours to give us different effects, and make the picture look better. When we used blue and red gel colours it created a really cool effect and I preferred them pictures to the others. We also took pictures using three point lighting. Below are the pictures that we took.

Market Research

To do this you would look at other competitor companies to see what they offer and what they provide for their viewers/consumers. Then you would create your own USP (unique selling point) to make your company unique compared to other companies.

Audience Research

Audience research is used to see who your video or company would appeal too the most. This is also used to show figures and who would buy or watch your video/product. You also try to find out who would find  your product useful, as this helps to see if it would actually sell. Surveys and questionnaires are a good use to help this, you can also use this software called BARB, this shows the figures of what the audience actually watches and what gets the most views or consumers. BARB interviews people at random to see what type of people watch what, this information is used to see which type of demographic watches.

Production Research

This is the research into the resources needed to make your product like lighting, recording and all the equipment you would need, including licenses and how much it would all cost. This is also used to look into safety and to make sure everything is would be fine.

Legal Considerations

When making a film or a video for anything you shouldn't have many swear words, even though swear words are used in most films now a days in small tasks where swearing is not needed they shouldn't be added in. You also shouldn't be racist or use blasphemy which can offend people based on their religion or can make people angry or sad. Representation is how certain groups or communities are portrayed in a film or TV show, it also creates very bad stereotypes towards people or races and even religions and countries.

Copyright

Copyright is where you copy somebody else's work that isn't yours, this is because if somebody uses your work and earns more money than you that would be wrong.

You can also have agreements like contracts and other things like creative commons. Contracts would be used to show what you should be earning and what should be happening or if you can use their music or lyrics. So if you were involved in making a film or a song then you would receive a contract to make sure that you know how much you will receive and if it's ok for them to use you in a film or your lyrics in their song.

Copyright Lawsuit

In 2018, Redd sued Epic Games on her son's behalf, alleging that the floss was his and that the developers of the video game Fortnite featured it unlawfully. Actor Alfonso Ribeiro of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, with three other people also sued the game developers over their use of various dance moves in Fortnite.

How To Videos

Down below are how to videos demonstrating the use of voice recording equipment. This is used to show the comparison of what is good and bad. So I will show three video's one will be good then one will be decent then the last one will be bad.

This video is the best one out of the three. I have chosen this due to the content creator showing us step by step to help learn how to record your voice over on a Windows 10 PC. The voice quality is good due to the content creator using a pop filter and a more professional microphone. The quality of the video itself is also very good, and uses different camera angles of him using the microphone, then a screen recording of what he is doing. The content creator also shows his voice after recording his voice over and the effects and quick buttons you can use. This video is educational and can help you if you don't know how to record your voice on Windows 10 PC.  I feel that this video met its target of what he wanted to achieve.

This is the semi-decent video, the reason it's semi-decent is due to the fact that this video takes too long to actually get into the video and by the time you get to the main part of the video you become very bored. He also only shows his laptop from over his shoulder and uses a standard headset microphone. Other than that it was all pretty good with giving a bit of information about behind the recording and much more. The reason for this video was to show how important voice overs are but, I think there are many other ways he could've executed this video, for example instead of mashing it all up together have it so it makes sense.

This is the worst video that I found on YouTube due to the video being shown poorly and the thumbnail not being too professional. He also showed too many buttons and went too fast meaning you would have to keep on stopping and starting the video. Throughout this how to video his voice was very dull, making the video become boring. He also repeats himself a lot which doesn't help make the video better.
